Commercial driving course - the process

The Commercial Driving License academic course takes four weeks, it is taught from 16:30 - 21:45 in the evenings. To register for the course you sign up here https://www.ekill.is/is/english/category-cde-online-course

First step - application process

The first thing you need to do, after you sign up for a course, is to get an appointment with a general practitioner and ask for a health certificate for the commercial driving license. When you have the health certificate you need to go to Sýslumaðurinn (Commissioners's office) and apply for a new driving license.
You need one application for each category you are planning on doing (one application for C and one for CE if you are doing truck and trailer for example). This step is very important since it is Sýslumaðurinn (the Commissioner) that gives you permission to start your education for the commercial driving license.

Payment of tuition fees

When you have finished the first step you wait for the course to start. We will ask you at this point to tell us how you would like to pay for the course, we have three different payment options, some are not available unless you have lived in Iceland for a certain time but you can always check your eligibility for this kind of loan.
1) We can send you an invoice to your internet bank or you can transfer the fee to our bank account (account number 0162-26-31111 kt.691297-3739)
2) You can divide the fee with Pei (https://pei.is) this is a payment company that divides your fee to up to 48 months via invoices but they charge you interest.
3) You can divide the fee with Teya (https://teya.weasy.io/en/home) here you will need a credit card to divide the payment up to 36 months.

Learning materials

We will send you a password to open up the course website and give you access to exams you need to pass at a certain point during your education. You sign in to this exam page with your kennitala (social security number) and a password I will give to you.
The four-week course is divided in half, a basic course (2 weeks) and an advanced course (2 weeks).
The first exam you need to pass will be on the last day of the basic course (ÖR School Exam), this is a cross-examination you do on your computer, you do it one time and you have one hour to submit it - if you run out of time the test will be submitted without your answers.
On the last day of the advanced course you will also need to pass a cross exam, one exam if you are only doing one category, and two if you are doing both the truck and bus category. This is the same process as for the first test, you have one hour and you only do it once.

You will get access to course materials and exam pages when you have paid the tuition fee.

After doing the academic study

After you have passed the exam on our exam website you can order the Security exam (Öryggispróf) at Frumherji you do that here at www.prof.is or at Frumherji locations.
You can get the ÖR exam at Frumherji in Icelandic, English, and Polish.

When you have passed this exam we will be able to organize the practical driving lessons for you. During those lessons your teacher will only be able to speak Icelandic or English with you - you need to be able to understand him/her. There is no seat for a translator in the truck to be able to help you understand.
You need to take 12 driving lessons on the truck, 7 driving lessons on the trailer, and 8 driving lessons on the bus if you are doing all categories.
If you are only doing the bus you need 12 driving lessons.

During the driving lessons you and your teacher will evaluate if you need more lessons or not, those extra lessons will be charged extra
C/Truck lessons 21.000 ISK
CE/Trailer lessons 23.400 ISK
D lessons 23.400 ISK

Practical and oral exam

During the practical exam, you will need to understand the examiner and be sure to make yourself understood in English, he/she only speaks Icelandic and English, if you need a translator please have him/her ready at your disposal before the practical test.

We want to clarify the guidelines for having a translator during a practical exam and cross-examination. In cases where there is no space for a translator in the driving exam (C category and CE category), the student will be alone with the examiner. The translator typically assists during the cross-examination test and the oral part of the practical test, but not during the driving portion. The driving test examiner will communicate clearly using sign language and easy English, making a separate translator unnecessary.

Please note the following rules regarding the translator:

1. The translator must be affiliated with a legitimate translation office and possess proficient Icelandic language skills to assist during a cross-examination test.
2. The translator cannot be a friend or a relative of the student.
3. The translator should be able to communicate effectively in either Icelandic or English.
