Our teachers and employees - Kristján Jóhann Bjarnason driving instructor

Kristján Jóhann Bjarnason is a father of three and a mechanic with a great passion for cars. He was born in Neskaupstaður and raised in Eskifjörður, and outside of work he spends his time tinkering with vintage cars and motorcycles.

If Kristján had a free weekend on short notice, it wouldn’t take much to make him happy. He would either spend time with his family or tinker with his cars and motorcycle – or both. If he could travel anywhere in the world, he would choose Japan or New Zealand.

Kristján began his career as a driving instructor because of his passion for cars and everything related to them – he got all his licenses as soon as he could and has always worked in driving. He says that his job at GrayLine, where he trained new drivers, sparked his interest in teaching.

Through his work, he has learned a lot about his own patience and that there is always something new to learn every single day. What he enjoys most about the job are his colleagues and meeting new people every day. In his view, the most important qualities of a driving instructor are patience, resourcefulness, and the ability to explain difficult things in a simple way.

Kristján believes that in the future, driver training will shift more toward automatic cars, and that instructors will need to certify special lessons on manual cars for those who want those licenses. His advice to new instructors: ‘Be open to learning something new every day – from other instructors and even from your students.’

We at Ekill are proud to have Kristján on our team – an instructor who puts his heart and soul into making the student experience both enjoyable and professional.

And here’s the song that gets Kristján in the zone when he’s working on his vintage cars –
