Our teachers and employees - Guðjón Andri Jónsson driving instructor

Guðjón Andri is a sociable and down-to-earth guy with a strong passion for driving, hiking, and meeting different people. He was born at Sturlu-Reykir in Reykholtsdalur. Outside of work he draws energy from nature, especially the highlands.

If Guðjón could travel anywhere in the world, he would go to New Zealand, but if a free weekend came up on short notice, he would head straight for Iceland’s highlands.

Guðjón began his career as a driving instructor after many years of experience as a piano teacher – there he learned the importance of working one-on-one with people and carried that experience with him when he switched to driver training. He says what drew him to the job was the opportunity to meet people with different perspectives on life, watch them progress, and grow.

His approach to teaching focuses on patience, honesty, and calmness. He puts great emphasis on stepping into the student’s shoes and tailoring his guidance so it helps each person learn at their own pace. With a smile, he admits that the job has taught him people will always surprise you – and that there’s always something new to learn.

When asked about memorable teaching stories, he recalls a student who overslept and showed up to the lesson still in their pajamas – something they both laughed a lot about.

Guðjón sees the future of driver training evolving with more technology, especially with new simulators and increased practice in simulated environments. In his opinion, the best piece of advice for a new instructor is simple: ‘Just be nice.’

We at Ekill are proud to have Guðjón on our team – an instructor who puts his heart and soul into making the student experience both enjoyable and professional.

Here you can listen to the music that always puts Guðjón in a good mood – though what makes him laugh the most are his fellow instructors at Ekill in Hafnarfjörður, Jac and Guðrún. <3
