At Ekill Driving School, we are truly delighted to have welcomed Sigurbjörg Sól Ólafsdóttir into our team. She was our very first driving instructor in Reykjavík who placed her trust in us to help establish our operations in the south – and she has excelled from day one.

Family First – but Always Room for Cake, Knitting, and Harrý

Outside of work, Sigurbjörg is first and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother. Family is her anchor – and good cake and cozy moments are always appreciated. She loves traveling, whether at home or abroad, and finds joy both in peaceful walks with her dog Harrý and in immersing herself in handicrafts.

Where Joy Meets Seriousness

What characterizes Sigurbjörg is her unique balance between patience and humor. She meets her students where they are, with calmness and understanding, while also using lightheartedness and laughter to make learning to drive more enjoyable. This combination has proven highly effective – both in creating a sense of safety and in easing the tension that so often accompanies those very first driving lessons.

From Professional License to Driving Instruction

In 2007, Sigurbjörg obtained her professional driver’s license and immediately discovered the freedom and joy that driving can bring. That was the beginning of her desire to pass on her knowledge and experience – which has since grown into her true calling as a driving instructor. She says what she enjoys most about the job is the variety: no two days are the same, every student is unique, and each conversation offers a new perspective.

Memories That Last

One unforgettable moment in her teaching career came when a student, during his very first truck-driving lesson, had a wave of panic when the police drove past. With a half-nervous laugh he exclaimed, “I don’t even have the license to drive this!” – and in that moment, both teacher and student were reminded of the essence of the work: building strength and self-confidence step by step.

Always Learning and Growing

Although the work itself has been consistent, Sigurbjörg says she has grown immensely as a person through it. She learns equally from colleagues and students and believes that the human element – communication, patience, and guidance – will always be the most important factor, no matter how much technology evolves.

Advice for New Instructors

Her best piece of advice is simple: Patience is the key. With good preparation and a calm heart, teaching becomes easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

We are incredibly proud to have Sigurbjörg on our team. She is not only an outstanding driving instructor but also a warm and cheerful person who makes everyone around her feel at ease. Her students leave with both confidence and joy – and at Ekill, we can truly say: we are the lucky ones.
